This is one of my favorite layouts ever made. It is simple, complicated, sturdy and delicate all at the same time. The balance is perfect. Your gondolas look great

    Thanks!
Byron Henderson always deserves credit for the inspirational design that we adapted, and my (then 9-yr-old) daughter Uki did so much of the work (historical research, construction, scenicking, turnout construction soldering, etc).

I'm very happy how all of the elements you mentioned balanced out.
It's a brilliant little layout (thanks Byron!) that, after I install slots along the front for car cards, will be able to provide hours/tons of fun no matter where I go.
The gons--that have laser-etched interiors--are Intermountains that I found at a vendor at X2011 in Sacramento who didn't know they had been discontinued.
    Great deal.
    Have only three.
    They are very, very heavy.
    In a good way :)
Definitely my favorite cut of cars to shunt around Alameda.

And you're right about delicate: my only regret is that there are so many delicate brass details right up front & in the way of hands constantly reaching over to turnout control.
    But it looks cool!

I went back to this thread because it is one of my favorite layouts of the last 10 years. I was wondering what you used for the building flat. I didn't think that 2 would be that long

Just found this thread and have spent the last hour going through the entire thing. Great work, great family, and great writing. Thanks for the memories made.

    Thanks for the kind words.
It's one of my fav layouts too :)
Really gotta clean up around that area in the garage so I can run trains.
Also want to install a DCC power panel so I can get an S-2 w/ sound & paint it Alameda Belt Line blue :)
But first I have to finish the xmas tree table train I'm building for my parents!
