We had that in the past. My old layout was one of the "stops" the car had. It was fun! Should totally do it again!

Yeah, that last one was a lot of fun, especially with the time-travelling, radioactive properties the car experienced

Easier to ship around N scale than HO scale.

Yes, that would be fun and I would be willing to participate.

That would be neat, and I would like to participate. I don't know who does decals though; I asked that question not long back and got no response in reference to TB Decals. Hope we have better luck with the question this time around

We did one of these back in 2005. Had a heck of a time getting those cars back from their last stop. And then we also had a TrainBoard Group doing this, but I believe that sort of faded away. :(

    Sticks in my craw...

As trivial as it may seem...

These type of endeavours are always fun to participate in. The thing that bothers me is this...

One person starts the ball rolling. They take a car they own and the car makes its trip around the world. Its photographed on a lot of layouts everywhere. It starts and ends with a story. That all fine and dandy. In the end...that ONE person who started it all ends up with the car. They own it after all. They now have a 'special' car. Something no one else can claim they have. One might feel good knowing they where part of it...but thats all they have. BUT...one person has the golden egg.

    Now....

If Trainboard sponsored the endeavor and at the finish line TrainBoard gave everyone a chance to own it...I would feel better. TB could hold a lottery to get a winner. TB could auction it off in a silent auction. It gives everyone a chance to own a little bit of history.

One person starting the ball rolling and ending up with that ball coming back to them as owner...just...well...

    Sticks in my craw...

    JMO...YMMV

Well...if there is enough interest in an auction to fund tranboard.....

I believe the first time we did this, when we finally were able to get them returned those cars were auctioned off.

I've done this with several cars, a set of GP60's and a locomotive on a flatcar. The biggest problem was that on the locomotive on a flatcar, the modeler suddenly died and the project disappeared for almost two years. It was rediscovered by the family and shipped back but that was kind of a downer.

I spent a few extra bucks to get the last set returned after two years missing, and sent them on to Jerry DeBene for safe keeping. If one was auctioned, then there is still another one.

I can relate I've wanted a Trainboard Car for my layout since I missed out on the last First Special Run many years ago. That is why I placed a Thread in the Special Run section to see what interest there might be. I figured that I wasn't alone in that thought. You might want to place your thought in that thread just maybe we might get our wish besides this method

That would be a bummer and a substantial loss to the individual that made the initial investment.
Maybe if we all chip in in the onset then that wouldn't be such of a concern. And also placed a time frame for each person to hold on to the Car; so a sort of schedule would be in place. That way it might make the rounds in a timely manner and not get lost in someones pile at home

There is an old saying, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I am willing to make the car and ship it out if I can get decals.

I think you could make it a lot easier on everybody if we used our Missouri-Illinois special run car! After all, it's the same car and car number, and there's what, about 200 of them out there, including mine. Load it up with a shipment of Archer Rivet Counters and send it west....

I recall participating in that. It felt great to be part of something bigger, connecting my railroad with everyone else. The cars were equipped with both rapido and MT couplers at either end so they would work in everyone's train.
The cars moved on, but decals were provided so members could create our own TRAINBOARD cars, so we have more than photos and memories of our participation.
