Hi All, Just dismantled my N Scale layout as I physically can not keep up with it. Member of the Nottawasaga Model Railway Club in the Collingwood area where we have just started a new layout in a new location, depicting the Alandale to Meaford line 1955 Era. My interest at present, is the DCC++ thread and hoping to set up a small display layout for on the road demonstrations that the club can take to area train shows we attend. John C H
Wewlome to TrainBoarD! Sorry to read of your layout's dismantling. Was it simply due to physical size of the effort? Will you be staying with N scale, or switching scales?
Hi BoxcabE50 Ya, I was hoping that it would turn into a long term retirement project, but, my physical issues make it very painful to work and maintain the layout. I particularly enjoyed the operations nights I held. In the process of selling anything I can and will buy a diesel engine with sound that will fit the era that or club is doing, an EMD GP7 probably. Our club is in HO. John C H
Hi John, Welcome, happy to have you on board. Another possibility, if it interests you, would be to build kits, weather "stuff", or repair equipment for your friends. Something that can be accomplished while sitting, i.e., activities that don't require walking, standing, or reaching while standing.
Hytec Good Points. Right now I am busy following the DCC++ thread and working to get the Command Station up and running on a test track. John C H
I understand the physical issues aspect. I am hanging in there as long as possible. I model In N (T-Trak these days), and HOn30. My layout days are in the past. It's now just small modules, as they are easy to handle, etc.
Welcome aboard! The club route is an excellent way to keep in the hobby, either for those who find physical problems interfering or for those like me without the space to set up. Good luck!
Welcome aboard John. I am sorry to hear of your layout dismantling and the reason why. I avoided that by not modeling, just being a fan of the real ones.
