Anything about appearance set aside, I believe the price on those items is a drawback. Keeps many folks out of O gauge.

Just remember this one basic fact: Paint doesn't haul tonnage.

I thought some of the "Bicentennial" units were a bit awkward. Although it never happened, I did think about getting a couple.

A reminder here, folks. Please do not upload copyrighted materials to Train Board or RailImages, without noting you have permission to do so. Unfortunately we are seeing this happening more and more frequently, lately. Far more than once we have received threatening legal nastygrams, when such uploads were done.

If from an outside source, they can be linked in, or you can post a URL to the photo.

It has been seven years since I rode behind it. They may have replaced it with this by now.

I'll have to find out. I'm thinking of making a trip to Hood River this summer.
The photo was taken at Parkdale the end of the line. That's Mt. Hood behind the locomotive.

Even with fresh paint, this would look gaudy. What was the Illinois-Cental-Gulf thinking when they came up with it? However, here as a Katy locomitive, it is just down right ugly.

So gaudy the paint can be seen through ten years' worth of dirt!

CR took lumps for the Bi-Centennial scheme on it's GG-1 'Old Rivets", but I applaud their participation, given that the massive CR merger had just taken place and operational distractions were abundant. (Photo not mine; copyright by John Dziobko)
