They're worried about the visual appeal... The same people think nothing of the sort when seeing - and barely noticing - trucks loaded with propane, gasoline, and other nasty stuff going through their neighborhoods. But empty tank cars on inactive track... You'd believe they have just spotted a nuke sitting there...
Would a loco built in 1945 really be that decrepit barely a decade, or so, later? One of the other WT units didn't look that bad even in 1969: http://www.american-rails.com/images/876xNxWGHTNTML48.jpg.pagespeed.ic.OsG_GGfls7.jpg
Speaking of steam locos...... Hammond Lumber Co. Alco #17, at the Mount Rainier Scenic RR on Father's Day.
Lots of rail action going on there at the old Rock depot/museum!!! Saw this pair of "oldies" pulling a V train here yesterday.
Interesting view you have. Seems to be plenty of action. Is there any freight traffic? Or is this all passenger territory?
EJ&E big hooks at Barrington, IL in early 1975 (I think) after a BN unit train split the switch at the south end of the siding.
This is all passenger, it is the Marriott in NoMa- one stop from Union station, in fact from the main hallway you can see Union, lots of action. Here is the Google maps link! https://www.google.com/maps/place/C...1s0x89b7b81be0a2c289:0x10517b2fc3e5dfd8?hl=en
