Starting Monday October 10 trains 5 and 6 will detour through Wyoming until October 13 due to track work in the moffat tunnel.
I was told that they were going to apply reverse flux to the tunnel motors to dissipate stray magnetic fields that have developed. The tunnel motors were installed to counter the collapsing effect of the earths rotation on the tunnel to keep it from imploding. If any trains are present in the tunnel when this maintenance is performed would roll over and spin parallel to the track. ....... Now if you believe that.....
I thought they were just reversing the polarity on the Heisenberg compensators Serious question: when re-routed through Wyoming, what route does the CZ take?
The train goes denver to Speer (just south of Cheyenne) then west along the overland route to Ogden, south from Ogden to Salt Lake City.
From the formation of Amtrak in 1970 until D&RGW joined in 1983, this path through southern Wyoming was the route Amtrak used for the CZ. D&RGW ran the parallel Rio Grande Zephyr on its own schedule to prevent congestion on its mostly single-track route during this period. Rode both many times. Edit: I should add that the train was named the San Francisco Zephyr during the years it ran through southern Wyoming.
