Antietam Station

This was the railroad station on the Norfolk and Western line at Sharpsburg, Md. It originally faced the other way but someone bought it after service was discontinued and turned it around so the big bay window faces away from the NS tracks. It is called "Antietam" station because of a train wreck many years ago when station operators misread "Sheperdstown" and "Sharpsburg" thus the change in name. After the Civil War veterans would disembark here and walk into town to visit the battlefield.
