ATSF682 EB Riverbank, CA 2/9/97

ATSF 682 approaches the Parker Rd grade crossing south of Riverbank, CA with a GP60B as the #2 unit. The new Modesto Amtrak station will be constructed at this location starting later in 1997, but at the time of the photo, the setting was still pastoral, and the San Joaquins still stopped at the old ATSF depot at Riverbank. I used to live 1.5 miles from here, and would hear the trains whistling at the grade crossings...the good old days indeed!

What time of day? The shadows might be early morning?

Boxcab - good eye! Yep, it's early Sunday morning. I used to go jogging w/ my son in a jogging stroller (he's 14 and taller than me now :) )along the canal out to the mainline (w/ my camera of course) before church on Sunday mornings. That Central California light is great - as soon as the sun comes up, it's nice and bright and clear!

There's something about early morning light. I can't think of how to describe it.
