That is a weird photo! I had to look closely to see that the 'loads' were covered by something like very white canvas. Makes you wonder what the loads were. Thanks for posting this interesting picture.
You laugh, Mr. Train, but in all seriousness, the Denver & Salt Lake RR used to haul trains of flatcars to its snowsheds at Corona, CO (elev. 11,660') to haul up to 15' of accumulated snowpack out of the snowsheds! The winds at that altitude (above the treeline, mind you)were vicious, and would drive snow thru the tiniest crack. It would accumulate in the sheds, and pack nearly solid, with passing trains running thru a literal trench. Rotary snowplows operated Rollins Pass every 8 hours for 9 months of the year, just to keep the line open. Brutal!
