Carbon Creek Railroad

This was a 2.5 foot by 5 foot layout that I made and sold in 2003. I had kitbashed the long bridge from 5 Atlas Warren Truss bridges several years earlier for my own layout, but decided not to use it. I wanted to experament with some scenery elements that were more dramatic than what was on my layout. To help accomplish this, I stacked two, two inch thick sheets of styrofoam to make a scenery base that could accomodate a deep canyon. Normally, whenever I built layouts to sell, the layout focus would be around either a station or an industry where the user could do some switching. There is a station and a small industry on the other side of the layout hidden by the ridge, but even though that is where the operational action is, to me, the gorge and bridge across it was the real centerpiece of this layout.
