Martinsburg, WV roundhouse

This is the remains on the roundhouse at Martisburg, WV. It is being refurbished into something.........I think I read maybe a museum o some type. The old shops can be seen on either side.

Looks like it might be an actual "round" house? Similar in idea, to the museum?

It was a roundhouse. It is a wonder that it survived seeing that Brunswicks was demolished in 1990. I have confirmed that the city of Martinsburg is refurbishing it and plan to make it into a museum but the hangup right now is the construction of a pedestrian bridge overtop of the CSX tracks. No one wants to pay for it.

Am glad it's been saved. I suppose I can understand the paying for it. These days, a lot of folks are short of cash, to pay additional taxes, etc. Perhaps they need a good grant writer to help acquire funds. Do they have a web site?

No idea. I got my information from a news article posted on another site.

As of today (July 15, 2008) the pedestrian bridge above the mainline has been put in place and there is an elevator that will eventually take tourists down to the complex but no work has been done on the interior of the roundhouse.
