When I first seen this I thought you were doing it the hrd way, but now i see its N. Great woodwork and that is a neat idea. Did you (I'm sure you did) use a bubble on the benchwork to be sure its on a flat plane to get a perfect grade.
With your helix one can work on any area of it, i like that. ....great work....John

I leveled the entire layout, then I installed the 1/2" ply over the helix module. Then I leveled that. With my uneven floor, this was mandatory.

What is the radius of your bottom loop?

It continuously-decreases. Minimum radius is 16". The top is better than 20" rad.

How many pieces per each loop of the spiral? Or is it one solid cut?How many inches between decks? I'm looking at 16-18 for mine.

I have about 9" rise out of mine, roughly 2 1/4" rise per loop.
Single piece, 450-inch scroll cut with the jigsaw, talk about sore arms!

I was just thinking about the risers. If your benchwork was open grid, and each was screwed to a 1 by 4 in that grid, you could easily make fine adjustments up and down.

If the top loop is 20 inch radius, is your benchwork a full 48 inches wide?

      Benchwork is 42" wide.
The helix is dead-level, and the helix supports were cut with a bandsaw. That sure made it easier to stay consistent with the grade. The open grid plan is so I can moderate the grade as needed.

What is the road bed thickness for your sprals? Looks like 3/4 inch plywood?

      :D
