Just a small position light signal. But it still protects trains. As far south as you could go on the L & I railroad. Near Louisville Union Station in Louisville,KY

Interesting little signal. What's the big brick building? A RR shop?

      :D

Printing Company. used to have rail service, not anymore. The business on the left of the tracks handles cardboard and still gets daily deliveries by rail though.
The signal, as you probably know, is ex PRR. this is one of about ten position light signals, controlled from Clagg tower, still in use on the L&I RR. The rest of the RR is dark except for remote controlled crossing at Seymour, In. and Belt Crossing in Indianapolis.

Am familiar with some tower names in your region. But "Clagg" is a new one for me. Any further info? Or perhaps a photo?

Boxcab if you look in my gallery you will find a bridge photo if you look over to the right you'll see CLAGG tower

There is the photo. Now look over to the right you will see a tower it looks like a interlocking tower. That is Clagg tower it also controls the lift bridge.

OK. Would it be correct to guess there were once more tracks in the area?

The track in the view of Clagg tower is the old K&ITRR line to Central Station. B&O and Southern both used it.
This used to be a busy Industrial area and there were many tracks. All there is now is the L&I - NS interchange.
One of the photos I posted from the sixties shows PRR E-units parked on the far side of the tower.
If you have a copy of Passenger Train Journal from May 1987 (Issue # 113) It has a feature on Louisville with a route map.
