K & I Bridge! Did you ever get one standing on the road on the side?

Neat viewpoint! A cab ride! That sure looks like it might be a Monon ALCo in front?

      :D

Three ALCO C-628's were pulling the train. Yeah it was a great ride. About 3 hours from Bedford to K&ITRR yard in Louisville. The only main line cab ride I ever had on the Monon.

Indeed--the Alcos would have been a treat! :D

This area was Alco heaven in the sixties - seventies. Monon had RS-2's, C-628's, C-420's. L&N had RS-3's. FA-2's, C-628's etc.
For a day Alcoing we would go to Bedford Indiana. As well as watching Monon trains, Milwaukee Road would station some RS-3's there and the crews were friendly. A trip to the Quarrys was common (8mile r/t) but the best ride was to Seymour Indiana and back, A round trip of about 80 miles listening to Alcos burbling and turbos whining.

      Linton,
You didn't actually have any association with the railroad other than just a big fan? They let you ride the trains just as a good will gesture or what?

I was a big fan. Still am. I had been to Bedford since my early teens, mostly via Monon 5&6. Everyone knew me and some of my railfan friends and I don't remember being turned down for a ride.
It wasn't really that hard back then to get a ride. I've had cab rides on L&N passenger trains Louisville - Cincinnati, Nashville - Evansville, Nashville - Chattanooga, Birmingham - Montgomary, Pensacola - Chattahoochi. Freight train rides on L&N, Southern, Monon, Rock Island, Milwaukee Poad, Penn Central, Tennessee RR and probably others I'll think of later.
Many of these were not just by myself but with railfan friends (or the wife) too.

The road/walkway on both sides is barricaded both ends. Solid...no pedestrians either, it seems. Probably liability issues.
