Hemi, Hard to describe. It is fairly close to the B&O station. There is another bridge in the distance that crosses over the River and B&O tracks and the B&O station would be to the left.
Ahhh yes the whole area was jumping back in the day. Here is an aerial shot of Youngstown Ohio. This bridge is in the upper left right above were the refection of the sky is in the river. Below that on the curve is the B&O station (restaurant now) from there to the right on the other side of the river is the PRR station (was a bus depot, now a fireworks retailer) Starting center and moving down to the right is the Erie RR cutting through the center of town. Most of the Erie roadbed has been covered with new buildings, a federal courthouse, a multi-story jail, and a steel industry museum are some of those buildings.
Youngstown & Northern ran from the mill left of the "Y" in Youngstown and only went a few miles to McDonald off right of "Ohio" Youngstown & Southern started as a trolley line the "end of the line" was over road bridge in the bottom left corner and up a few blocks. Later they ran boxcabs, now the Ohio Central uses their old rails. Here is a map of the area: http://www.railsandtrails.com/Maps/P&LE-1960/P&LE1960MapYoungBuf-150.jpg It shows the LE&E, Y&N and Y&S. I live in between Warren and Niles right were it says DeForest Jct.
Hey I found a photo of this bridge I'm standing at: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=161297
Interesting. I didn't know any of the Y&S still existed. Wasn't the Y&N a steel mill hauler? Did the B&O have some interest in the Y&N? Boxcab E50
Just about all of the Y&S is still kicking other than the last bit over the road bridge. (once the trolleys disappeared so did that track) http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr183.htm The Y&N was built on top of the old Painesville and Youngstown that used to be 3 foot gauge: http://content.bristol.lib.oh.us/farmington/railroad.htm The P&Y followed the B&O to Niles and branched off. That branch later became the B&O lake sub and parts are still used by CSX today. I have no idea if they had control of the Y&N. The Y&N started in McDonald at a steel mill, here is their engine house: http://www.trainweb.org/lfnwfan/html/images/y&nstoreroom.jpg It only ran 3-4 miles to another steel mill at Brier Hill so it may have been ran by the mills. The Y&N engine house is still there and used by Larry's Truck & Electric (LETX) to rebuild locomotives: http://www.trainweb.org/lfnwfan/html/Larry's.htm The rest of the Y&N roadbed is now just an access road next to the CSX.
This is where I was standing: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v...&scene=24530188&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1
