Helix construction 1

These photographs recount the construction of a helix for my Utah Division layout (N scale). Using a simplified version of a plan developed by a Swiss modeler (Rainar Lussi), I was able to complete the entire project -- including installation -- in a single day. The spreadsheet takes your planned radius and scale as input and outputs the exact dimensions of the helix pieces you need to cut. Please feel free to contact me for additional information. This helix is now in daily service on the Utah Division. Using 15" radius Unitrack, it provides a 26" grade separation between Soldier Summit and the staging area below, which represents Roper Yard.
