Yeah, It is a pretty old engine. Bult in 1956, But It is in great condition though, the North Carolina Transportation museum takes Great!! Care of their locomotives, The reason its smoking so bad was the engineer notched it up to what sounded about like 7. Trying to get some speed up. That is quite a big load for a little 1100 horsepower diesel pulling 8 coaches from a dead stop.
Nice picture! If that's an H12-44, this should be 1200hp. Hence the "12" in the model number. Also, looks like the fireman's door is closed. Which is smart. When these have wear on rings, etc, they'll spray some oil out their stacks. Your (ruined) clothing will look like little black speckles. Boxcab E50
Thanks!, sorry about that. I meant to put a 2 in there i guess the finger slipped and hit the 1. I was going to get a cab ride that day but unfortunaley because of the big crowd the list was a mile long. Im suprised this shot turned out as good as it did, its ok i guess. i tried to time it when there where no cars coming by the crossing which was HARD becuase as soon as it started to come by people everywhere swarmed to the bridge i was standing on. Which i took the photo from, and a few cars started coming up to the crossing. i would have took the photo a bit later to get the locomotive equal and to get a better view of the coaches. But i took it early so nothing would be in it except for the train. Thanks again for the comments
