Overlapping elements in small switching layouts

One of the keys to model railroad layout design efficiency is overlapping elements when space is tight. This HO shelf switching layout would occupy about 2'X12', but nearly every element overlaps to make best use of the space. The yard, switch leads, industries, and runaround all overlap to some degree. (The layout is inspired by the real-life Alameda Belt Line. I published a design for a folding N scale version of this layout in Model Railroad Planning 2005.)
