Not on the work bench but fresh off it.
Something I just bashed together from a Roundhouse 3 in 1 Kit. The MOW flat car with load.
Barrels from the junk box, barrel retainers are cut down hand rails from an old diesel engine, I scrounged some river rocks from one of the wife's flower pots and smashed them up with a hammer for the rock load, lumber is scale 12ft long timbers of varying dimensions, divided the box into 2 sections and added Kadee couplers.

I also added tool boxes, a brake wheel and some other odds and ends that were laying around.

Working on a chain link fence to go around the yard and an instrument building. Why is it that CA sticks everything together except the parts intended to be glued?[IMG]

First post, so I hope this works. The boundaries of my workbench are being challenged by a build of the Walthers blast furnace. Here are a couple pictures of the work in progress/suggestions. I think I’m up around 30 hours at this point. I first have to say many thanks to Trucklover who posted (2009) an extensive set of pictures and approach on the build of the Ashland steel furnace which I believe is an upgrade to the model I am building. One tip I would have for anyone building this kit is to use a thin plastic base to ensure alignment of components (especially the cast house) and to allow turning the model while building it. I did run into a wrinkle where you do need to put some rather large holes into stove tanks pictured here. I ended up using forsner bits and a power hand drill - not the greatest solution but it seems to work. With a little putty and a little reaming I should be able to have a nice fit for the pieces which fit into those holes. Need to assemble the pieces which fit in to those holes to get a good measurement on size of holes required.

    Hi Ron,

That is quite a project! It will look awesome when finished! Please keep posting pictures of your progress. I have never seen the kit you are building so it looks pretty involved.

Thanks for posting your photos, I'm looking forward to seeing it go together!

Just off the workbench, KCS SD70ACe #4173. This is a Walthers Mainline loco with DCC & sound. Weathered with pan pastels, a touch of acrylic paint and black wash. This is one of the pair I got for Christmas. I will be starting with #4140 next. Thanks for looking.

Complete and ready for ops this weekend at the club. Bookends, KCS #4140 and #4173. I'm happy with how they turned out. This is a first for me, no rust spots!!! Thanks for looking.

I know Tangent has released the PRR X58 in RTR but I acquired a couple of Rail Yard Models Kits, that I intend to build, here are all the parts, pieces and decals for the car I am building, a Lehigh Valley RBL that was built by the Pennsy for the LV.

Very nice kit! You ought to enjoy building it. Be sure to post pictures of it when you finish it. I'm looking forward to seeing it!

Mr. Jesionowski, do you happen to have an account on the Atlas forum with the same name? I just looked up the kit you were building, and found a page on the same boxcar model, but from 2008. This was a bit random, but I thought that was a funny coincidence.

Yes I have all my forum accounts with the same name, back then it might have been my Rail Yard Models X79 Boxcar Kit, which was a 60' Thrall Boxcar used in Kelloggs Cereal Service. I just acquired three of the X58 Boxcars (and they were not made by Rail Yard Models in 2008).

That's what it probably was. Both of those look to be impressive models. I've heard somewhere that Railyard isn't in business anymore. I don't know if that is correct.

I am assembling one of the most famous kits in the history of HO - The Revell Engine House.

My late older brother had HO equipment when we were kids in the early sixties and I started with Lone Star Treble-O-Lectric and eventually graduated to N scale. This was one of the kits he assembled and he eventually lost interest in trains and MRing while I, of course never did.

His stuff was given to my nephew who had a layout for a while but also lost interest. His layout and equipment was sold to a local guy for his son and was thus, gone (although my oldest brother recently told me he still has some of it).

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to acquire the same stuff my brother had via eBay and have almost got all of it within a week or so (also including the famous Atlas 5 Trackside Buildings kit). So, I'm having fun seeing and operating these same things from so long ago. I still love the sound of an old Tyco F9.

    Dale,
You said those KCS SD70Ace's are Walthers? I might have check them out. Great job on the weathering BTW. Hard to keep up with all the posts lately.

    Hi Tom!

I figured you've been busy lately. I noticed you've been absent lately. Hope you guys are doing ok up there. It looks like winter hasn't quite given up in your neck of the woods.

I have 3 of the Walters SD 70ACes in my roster, 1 BNSF and 2 KCS. All 3 run almost identical right out of the box. While not quite as detailed as the Genesis version, I think they are pretty good.

I appreciate your compliments on my weathering, especially after seeing the caliber of modeling you do. The Walters model uses a modified sound decoder that does not have all the sounds available the the more expensive decoders do but they are nice. These are not as expensive as some out there. PM me if you wish and I will let you know where I got them and the price.

    Take care buddy!

As a kid I used to run the wheels (literally off) of the Tyco, AHM locos, before I found the "advanced flywheel Athearn's" I even went so far as to take those side winder geared, power trucks from a broken loco and wire them for the rear truck opposite than the front and walla a 4 axle powered Tyco. No Fly wheel but hey, I was making stuff work for me, on the cheap. 13-15 years old at the time, I was learning and having a blast. Sounds like you are too.
Think I still have a few of them Atlas buildings myself LOL
    Please carry on Sir.

As Promised Here are some pictures of my assembly attempts on the LV X58 Boxcar.

Here is the underside of the car after installing the Keystone Cushioning Devices and various Cross-Member
    Reinforcements and general reinforcements.

Installed the various brackets to hold the Air Tank, Brake Cylinder and ABD Valve (with all the holes drilled out for
various piping to be installed). Then installed the air lines connecting all the above mentioned equipment.

    Thanks for looking!

Well, not exactly on the workbench, but on a shelf behind the desk I USE for a workbench. This is the .. well .. maintenance track. Every locomotive that needs something goes here. Since I'm just starting out again, I've been a bit indiscriminate about buying! So, lots of repairs, light installs, DCC decoder install .. even full paint jobs - it all comes here.

    IMG_3150.JPG

I wonder just how long .. someday .. is...
