A while back I was granted land rights in the dining area for a small N Scale layout (20" x 110") just so I would be able to do modeling when I cant make the trip upstairs to my main layout. I had been kicking around a few ideas as to what theme to work with. I was originally going to do a transition era small town with lots of switching. however this past Christmas the wife decided put a theme to my model RR gifts, and bought me a bunch of logging stuff (GHQ log loader, Logging truck, a lumber yard and some logging skeleton cars) This galvanized my theme for this new layout. A freelance logging RR set in the 1970s. I have added 2 SW1 switchers and a 44tonner to the roster. Now I am looking for a road engine that can navigate very tight curves.

Looks good to me. The Atlas Shay is back in production, and while old, it lends a bit of spice. As far as tight curves I would imagine all you need are those SW-1's. They were capable of short mainline runs to the mill or wharf. Jim

Oh, the SW1's are for the logging operations. I want a road engine to handle interchange traffic on the loop.

Well, actually about $100 worth of trains for $270. Jim

It would be about $200 if the chassis cost from China didn't double.

well thanks for the suggestion. Though I am going "cheap and cheerful" on this layout.

In that case I won't recommend a Micro Ace 0-6-6-0 as an option

I actually sprung for the Micro Trains set as I'm looking at doing a small logging-themed switching layout myself. I know the production costs have skyrocketed for Micro-Trains, and figured I'd support them for all of the great products and service they've provided over the years. I won't know until the end of the year, but I'll let you know how I like it!
