Hi. Anyone own one ? If so how do they perform ? Never owned an IHC anything. But I've always heard they run good...and are just a tad lacking in detail...Yes ? No? Saw one on ebay. Looks good. Is shell metal or plastic? Number of pickup wheels ? Thanks, Mark

IHC locomotives can be very smooth runners. I have a couple of 2-8-0's. They are not well detailed but are a solid locomotive. But an IHC locomotive will have DCC installed by the owner. They did not install decoders at the factory. That said, if the owner did a good job on the decoder installation, and the seller is providing the decoder documentation, you might get a good deal. With no documentation you could spend a lot of time figuring out how to change any settings.

    Mark,
They run fantastic! They just need a little detailing.

Hey ....! Justin ! Thanks for the good news. I am here in So. Pas. Just lots of stuff on my plate. Been getting closer to an eyeball/ go to PMRRC at some point... I believe garage is too far gone for a layout. Planning an L shaped shelf, switching layout in my rented room. He's OK with that too.. Sorry for not responding earlier. I just caught your reply now. Maybe I'll find an IHC with sound, somwhere. I guess their strategy is keeping costs/prices down by less detail but good mechanics and electrical continuity.
    Will get back , Mark

IHC: One final question: From the photos, the flanges look a tad too deep on them. If I'm correct, can they negotiate code 70 rail, should I employ some ?

These IHC locomotives do have deep flanges. I run code 100 (yes, it looks too big, but it was cheaper than code 83 when I was starting my current layout). I have read that the IHC locomotives will perform on code 83 but code 70 is hit or miss depending on spike head height. If you purchase the loco a test with any code 83 or 70 track you purchase would be advisable before laying in a big stock of that track.

Thanks for heads up. But I'd rather have proto looking rail, and not buy the IHC, than build a whole RR with code 100; especially if we're talkin' old Atlas 100 with the out of scale black ties and plastic switch/diamond frogs ...
