Hi, found this forum by accident whilst researching my current railway project - Railways in Colombia - and came across some interesting photos posted some years ago. Been railway modelling for more years than I care to remember (had a few interruptions in the process), and now that I'm retired I can dedicate more time to it. Having aquired a 3D printer recently, this has prompted me to work on something a tad more unusual, hence Colombian railways, only because I spent a couple of years living in Bogotá, enjoying the Turistren regularly. I started this project using a scale of 3mm/ft (track gauge 3ft = 9mm) but limitations on this 3D printer meant I changed to 4mm/ft (12mm gauge). Currently started to 3D print GE U10B (as a kit of parts). I'll post pictures later. Cheers, Tom.
Hi TomBee, welcome. Glad you found us, and that you came on board. Printing parts for kitting a U10B sounds like an ambitious project. We'd enjoy seeing photos and description of your progress. What material does your printer use? Do you plan to use HO scale track considering the wide variety of components. HO, 3.5 mm/ft, appears closest to the 4 mm/ft your printer requires. EDIT: remembered that OO scale is 4 mm/ft. What is the availability of OO track?
Hello, Tom. We are happy to have you join us. We are looking forward to seeing your photos of your progress.
Whereabouts in Scotland? I have Glaswegian roots, hence the curiosity. Look forward to seeing/hearing more about your project as it does sound very interesting.
Plan is to use TT track (12mm gauge) working to a scale of 4mm/ft (1:76 as used for OO gauge) Prototype gauge is 3ft.
Hi there, thanks for the welcome. A photo can be found at the Inspection Pit section under the new thread "3D Printing and Railway Modelling". Hope you like.
