If I remember correctly, that photo of 501 was during an interim period before Monhart bought it. Another individual purchased it and kept it stored at Union Station for several years in the early to mid 70s before he bought it in 1977 or 1978. And if I also remember correctly, this same individual also owned a set of Burlington budd cars that were kept along with 501.

Those RSD-15s were handsome units. That one has already been repowered with an EMD engine (non-turbo, by the twin stacks). And I believe I see the associated slug behind it, converted from a 244-engined road Alco. That GP-7 has a nice mug too. And just enough grime to make it look like it works hard for a living.
\ I'm sucker for classic ALCos such as 9949, so it was a must. And yes, the slug is a former RSD-5. PC numbered both the RSD-15 and the slug 9949, which I assumed means they were not split up. BN 6466 seems familiar to me. If I can ever get my slides, I may have captured it somewhere. Any ideas what happened? It does not have any nose damage, which might hint this was a derailment, not a collision?
Look again. Where are the handrails? She must have been moving a decent clip for the pilot and rails to flip something up clear of the short hood.
What a show! You know you can scan them to the computer and set up a slide show. How cool would that be?
It looks like it hit something from the fireman's side first. The engineer's side handrails look good
The guys in that SD45 must have had quite a headache... By the looks of it, it must have been a rollover on the fireman's side.
