I'm in Arizona and just joined today to get some ideas for my N Gauge layout. I model the Rio Grande Southern without all the spectacular ground cover, bridges, rock formations and all the rest that people have modeled with the DRG&WRR. I just wanted something easy to model and easy to run trains on. So far I've accomplished that with minimal frustration. My layout is 10 months old and the 5th or 6th one I've built beginning in 1985. I've used Atlas switches and track entirely and my motive power is Rio Grande so far. Eventually I want to incorporate Southern Pacific and Union Pacific as well as they ran along with the Rio Grande Southern from what I gathered from my research. I will post some pictures when I figure out how to do that.

I have a double track main with branch lines along the route. It's all controlled by DCC and all switches are manually operated. I wanted to walk around with the train and have to stop at each switch to throw it like real railroads do. I will be setting up a waybill system soon as I get the time to.
Hi Timlsalem, welcome, glad to have you on board. I'm impressed with your creative imagination. Looking at your photos, some of us could learn from you.
Thanks all, glad I'm here. So, I got this Spectrum GE 70 to use as a switcher. I had one once before and it worked great in the yards and out on the main headed for branch lines. On that layout I had soldered the connectors on the switches in the yard and on most of the rest of the track. I haven't done that to this one yet. I keep getting ideas and start switching track around. This new GE 70 will go through a few of the switches I have out on the main with no problems but it won't go through my switches in the yards and on branch lines except at an unrealistic speed. It looses power when it crosses the plastic separators built into the switches from Atlas. When I push down on the engine I get power back and can feel it wanting to go so, not a problem with the engine. I have wire feeds every 3 feet so I don't think it's a supply problem. I'll clean all the track again and see what happens. I may just have to solder the yard and see if the problem goes away. These connectors we have to use get corroded and is hard to keep clean so they won't loose current. Thanks again for the welcome.
Good job ' welcome aboard also' I am new also. I really like this forum. Its lets you like a post which most do not have. More pics.
