I good design would also use the USB connector for firmware-upgrades of the Rokuhan controller (and maybe even firmware-debugging).

Actually Garth, using a multiport charger is not a good idea, you want the ground of the audio connection to be the same as the ground of the power input to the device, especially since you are basically sending audio

When I am recharging the Bluetooth Receiver or any device it is not in use, it is only connected to a charger, wallwart or other

Can the E-controller detect when communication with the controlling smartphone has been lost or interrupted and slow or stop the loco?
For example, does the loco continue operating based on the last command it received despite the controlling smartphone having gone out of range?

data is only in one direction from App to controller, if App stops working you are advised by OS in Android smart phone, that this has happened, if e-controller stops your train stops. The only thing I have seen is a short stop the train, on derailment at a turnout, fixed that and things were back up immediately, Most of the time I expect you are paying attention to the train so you can see when things are going south, but the econtroller does not send any warnings to the App, it just stops working, so trains stop. Bluetooth connection, I have not been able to get far enough away from layout to get range to be an issue. I see no interference with receiver from other Bluetooth devices in operation either. Range Bluetooth range, I think far exceeds your ability to see the trains to operate them at even 50% of it's range . I know if you turn the audio down, below a certain threshold the trains stop, so I expect if you pull audio cable or Bluetooth receiver out of audio jack, things stop, I would then expect, as you approach the max Bluetooth range that the audio out of the receiver would degrade to a point that the link fails and the trans would stop then also.

So that seems to imply that there is a continuous stream of speed commands from the app to the controller, which is how most DCC systems work.
