Hi everyone. I'm a new member and new enthusiast all together. I wanted to get into something my sons and I could enjoy together so I picked up some HO stuff. I recently bought a decent sized collection over the weekend including a 9'x5' layout, a few locomotives and around 40 cars. All for $80!!! There was even a late 40's- early 50's american flyer complete set in one of the boxes and it works perfectly! The biggest thing I'm looking for now is information on older Athearn locomotives and their driveline/motors. I have a few locomotives that have nothing in them except the trucks. I really want to get them on the layout, so I'm looking to get the parts I need to get them working again. I know very little about trains in general (sorry), but I'm very interested in learning more. I can take some pictures of the locomotives this evening and upload them and hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction for parts. Thanks. Looking forward to learning as much as I can and having some fun! Here's a picture of the layout and a few of the cars that it came with.
Hi Wax, Welcome, glad to have you, and your boys, aboard. That's a spiffy looking layout for only $80. You done good, son.
What a great start, glad you found us. btw-many older locos were made with no motors and were a cheap way to get multi-unit sets of engines and were used only with other motorized unit(s). For example a motorized F7A (diesel with crew cab), F7B dummy (matches A unit except no crew cab or headlights), and a dummy F7A to complete the set.
Tha ks for the replies and the welcomes! At least 2 of these weren't dummy's. They have partial drive assemblies still on them. I'm guessing maybe it'd be best to post the pics in the ho board instead of here for help identifing them?
Welcome aboard, Wax. What a great start you have there and what a deal! Christmas is indeed right around the corner.
I'll add my, "Welcome to TrainBoard," Wax. I hope your boys will take to the hobby like you ever thought they would! Merry Christmas!
