I just got a PCC streetcar from Bachmann and am trying to get it working with DCC++. I have it on my programming track, in Decoder Pro, I go to new loco, hit Read Type from Decoder, and I got a lot of possible matches back, all in the Soundtraxx Throttle Up group. This seems right from a top level, but I can't figure out what to do next. I have tried GG1 and GP40 as guesses, but neither seems to work right. I can read all sheets without errors on the GP40, but nothing happens when I hit the function buttons in JMRI. It's the default address of 3, I haven't changed it. I do get read errors on some of the other Decoder profiles.

As I understand DCC, if the address is right, the F buttons should work no matter what, so I'm wondering if my loco is just defective? I know there are functions on F1 through F4 on this, but I get no sound or lights, nor does trying to make it move work. Or, do I just not understand, and you can only make it move on the main track?

Any ideas? I'm new to JMRI and DCC++, but I've done a lot of reading, and I am worried that the loco just isn't working correctly.

    Thanks.

Yes, you need to be on the main for commands to be sent to the loco for anything except programming.

I setup my program track with a DPDT switch so it can be a main or program track at the flip of the switch......it makes it easier than having to move to loco to test.

I wondered. I'll try it again tonight. Thanks.

Does anyone know what JMRI decoder I should use for the Chicago PCC streetcar? The PCC entry under soundtrax is mislabeled in a lot of places. I haven't found an entry that has everything correct.
