First I must apologise for the poor quality pictures my cheepie digital camera takes but this is just to give you an idea of what I am trying to do here. I look through the Saturday newspaper and find interesting building pictures and ads for new condos and such. I have collected a few of these of a size appropriate for N gauge and placed them on the background in the city of Maberly. Here is my first attempt. The second picture is a downtown Toronto scene I have added to the Maberly background. So far I am pleased with the look and I just wished they showed up better here. I will continue to collect these great building pictures and use them in my backgrounds around the layout. Have any of you attempted anything like this?
Robin, What a great idea. I wish you had posted this about three months ago; I could have used it then. Would you mind expanding where you have gotten your pictures from.
Rick, the Saturday Toronto Star has a Condo section which shows ads for various apartment buildings. They come in all sizes and it doesn't take many weeks to build quite a collection. They are in colour, some photos but most are artists impressions. There is also a section on new homes with lots of pictures that can be used too. Every so often I also find pictures of office buildings and such in other sections. I use Elmers all purpose glue stick to glue them in place as it doesn't bleed through paper like so many other glues do. [ 09 June 2002, 00:32: Message edited by: Robin Matthysen ]
Robin, I think - and I am serious about this - you should do an article for MR. There are many, like myself, that realize that painting backdrops doesn't cut it as our skills are low in this area. I am convinced they would run it. The only thing you would need is some demo pictures, and the finished product, with a better camera. I think Yankinoz put a thread somewhere with a link to MR for writer's to check out so that they can produce useable material for the mag.
