Check out this proto photo from the Metro North engine facility ===== http://www.trainweb.org/theteentrack/NH228229.jpg ===== and the N models just announced ===== http://blwnscale.com/LEGACY%20Genesis.htm ===== eNjoy
There are four GE P32-ACDM units owned by Connecticut DOT and used by Metro North. CDOT has adopted the former New Haven livery as their official paint scheme and all their equipment wears it. The photo is of two new units at CSX Selkirk diesel shop enroute to Metro North P-passenger, 32-3200 hp., AC-ac traction motors, DM-dual mode diesel/third rail.
Here is a cool link to a pic of the NH Gennies pulling the CSX inspection train ,taken by a local photographer: http://www.haviland.org/rail/images/mn229mp54.jpg Russ
That is great news to have a model of the CDOT Gennie so soon. In the picture of the model, there seems to be on important detail missing. Only on the Gennies running on Metro North, there is a door in the nose. I did not see it on the model. Note in this picture, the door has the NH logo painted on it. This story is not confirmed, but I heard that when the Gennie was being evaluated by MN, one or more engineers demanded that door as an additional escape route in case of an accident. The Amtrak units don't have it, so far as I know.
Actually, the New Haven scheme was reintroduced by Metro-North on the ex-New Haven FL9's some years ago. The exact year escapes me, but I believe it was sometime in the late '80s or early '90s. This is just a continuance of the scheme on the new motive power.
I photographed a couple of NH/ConnDOT FL9's back on a holiday in 1994, so they were around then... Ref the hatch on the nose, could they print that detail on, it would be a good compromise (imho) as it seems unlikely that Kato will mould them a new shell especially for that run! Both the model & prototype look very cool...
I checked BLW toady and the NH "P32" is Kato's P42 painted. They have a disclaimer above the pic that says "Technically, the GE P32's are slightly different from Kato's outstanding P42, but they are quite close." In other words, rivet counters beware! There may be one or two details left off. Personally, it would not stop me from getting one. BLW has been faithful to the NH scheme, also offering FA units and several freight cars. BTW- about 2 months ago, someone's scratchbuilt NH Gennies were featured on the cover of RMC. I bet that fellow is kicking himself now that someone is offering them! Happy Railroading! Russ
