Finally got my Caltrain commuter train after missing out on the KOBO releases, I found someone to convert some Metra into Caltrain. It was basically a decal job as we decided on not moving the name plate. I like how it came out. Now I have 3 generations of Bay Area Peninsula commuter trains.

Nice collection, I would like a commuter train that was made up of a Train Master and Subs.

Did Wheels of Time make the Suburbans? I would love to get some of those too, I actually remember seeing those when I was a kid.

Is it WoT that made the SP models on the first picture?

Hi Tehachapifan - actually don’t know what he used but will find out for you.

Hi Mikael - yes they are WoT.

Hate to rain on your Caltrain parade, but where are the two tone gallery cars with the Trainmaster or 4-8-2's? Aren't the cars in the first photo ConCor gallery cars and not WofT?

No. Concor's cars have fewer but larger windows on both ends of the car. WofT's cars have six windows on either side while Concor's cars have four windows. Man, Concor or someone else really needs to revisit the idea of these cars... there is a market, what with both the San Fran and Metra operations... even etched metal car sides that could be used on the WofT cars would be better than the hollow windows of the Concor cars...

Im getting used to the rain, been raining the last couple days here in the Bay Area. Last time I checked they were WofT and the boxes says so. The only other trains I'm interested in are the suburban cars and a Trainmaster but would settle for an SD9.

    Con-Cor NEVER does anything right!

Those came out great Junior. If you make it to Hiller bring them with you. We do sometimes run Caltrain on the AsiaNrail layout because people ask for it. I'll have my two-tone WOT gallery cars with black widow Trainmaster and a GP9TT for a backup.

Junior: Or, you can run on the SVFMN layout, too (as long as DCC). We have a number of CalTrains, as well as Silicon Valley CalTrain Station

Looking forward to seeing you, Brad.

Thanks for the invite Brad and Rick, none of those locomotives are DCC but will be in the future hopefully. I hope to be there on Saturday before Easter and some other day during the week. It's always nice for folks to see a local train. I believe Sam will be there to help out.

These are both great candidates for sound

and working cab lighting (with flashing ditch lights)

I have what I need to update the Bombardier cab car to include lights, and plan to tackle it after the Hiller show

Unfortunately I have the Athearn Faux MP36 / F59PHI and will not be investing in that loco but definitely DCC and sound in the future for the Kato F40’s. Please document the light install process for the Bombardier Cab cars, would like to see that.

I need to do that to my Metrolink Bombardier cab car! All you need is a function-only decoder and LEDs, correct?

Almost. You also need to add something for power pickup. I will be using, for now, the SBS wheel wipers. Unfortunately, those will add even more friction to an already poor truck design by Athearn. There is an effort underway to do a new 3D printed truck for these inside rollerbearing axles.

Nice trains! I've happy memories of riding Caltrain 2003-2005. Those F40's used to scream!
