Hello fellow rail fans! My name is Greg, I’ve been a rail fan as long as I can remember. My Great Grandfather and Grandfather both worked for the NYC railroad in Paris, Illinois where I was from.

When I was very young my Great Grandfather passed but my Grandpa still worked on the railroad
and did until he retired. Paris is a small mainly farming community on the eastern side of Illinois approximately 20 to 30 miles west of Terre Haute, Indiana and 35 miles roughly south of Danville, IL.

I wasn’t born in Paris (I was a Navy baby). But, Paris was where my family was from. Most of my family lived in Paris. We also lived in Ridgefarm during the 1960’s however, it seemed like we were always in Paris and around family.

By the time I was able to remember anything the railroads and Paris's “glory” days where fading.
At that time my Grandfather was working for Penn Central. And I remember my Grandpa “hanging” out of the caboose waving to us. If we were at the crossing.

I have been out of modelling railroads for a long time. And obviously looking to return. I would like to (evidentially) model (what else) Paris, IL. between the 50’s to 60’s. I’m considering either N or Z scale. This model is likely well over my head currently considering I’m basically starting over in the hobby. I’m looking to start something that my grandchildren can related too. Basically Arizona and Union Pacific.

Anyway, I’m looking forward the learning the modern in’s and outs of the hobby from the TrainBoard you my fellow TrainBoards the members. Thanks!

Welcome aboard! I live in Illinois but a few times a year my company sends me out to work in Arizona. We have facilities in Yuma, Kingman, Prescott and Lake Havasu. I love the Kingman/Oatman area and it’s inspired me to begin a small mining layout in Nn3.

Welcome aboard, Greg. I can see by your sig that Paris was on the Big Four. I'm a NYC fan, too, from the Mohawk Division in NY State. It was a great railroad and many are modeling it today.

Hi Greg, welcome. Happy to have you on board. I think your modelling concepts are great. I'm sure you'll be overwhelmed with good advice and help. Just ask away...remember, there are never any "dumb" questions. We all were ignorant at one time, and there were many folks who guided us along the way.

Welcome aboard Greg. You ought to like model railroading in AZ. Lots of abandoned Rails to model from the SP days and UP all over the state. I was in Tuc for years where the Hump yard was at. Nice times. Enjoy
