    I saw those.

That is not the worst they have gone for. I watched a 6 car set go for close to $200 a couple of weeks ago. Two guys got in a bidding war and they went from $50 - $178 I think it was, in the last day. Almost tempting enough to put the set I have up for auction. I got them Buy It Now for $20, including shipping. Wasn't actually looking for them but couldn't pass them up at $3 a car. They were worth that for kitbash fodder if I wasn't happy with them.

On the flip side, I managed to finally score one of those LL DRGW GP60's that have been showing up on there with a "buy it now" price of 49 bucks! Although it seems to be increasingly rare, there are occassionally still some deals to be found! :D

It still amazes me what ebay can bring! As for a six car set for $200 - wow. Must admit i paid $120 for a six car kato smoothside b&o set, but theyre hard to find and now i dont feel half as guilty! lol

I'm glad you posted this. That B&O combine with a little work (or maybe a lot) could be built into a DL&W electric MU cab car. The end roof lines look identical. Although the end windows look a little low pehaps.

I seem to recall that there was an article about doing this somewhere. A relatively early N-Scale comes to mind but don't quote me on that. A check on http://index.mrmag.com might prove useful.

Is the bidder one of the Power Ball winners? Have you seen the items and prices he paid for his most recent wins?

That atlas frontrunner doesn't even have MT couplers. (!)

It's cases like these that makes it necessary for this forum and others like it. A new comer like myself can converse with experienced modelers and collectors, get a heads-up on the cost of a particular item on the market before actually bidding on ebay. I hope this individual get in the know soon.

I am constantly amazed how much the old Atlas 4 truck whale belly tankers go for on E-bay. I don't think these are even proto-type. NOt that this would matter but wow the prices these things get.... what a return for a junky car.

Some things are hard to question, or determine, a value for, at least when it comes to an out of production model that had a small run to begin with. If you want it badly enough, you're going to have to pay more than the other person that wants it just as badly.

    The ones like this one:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6036066505&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D6036066505%26fvi%3D1

are the ones that I just can't figure out. First, this has rapido couplers as seen in the picture, not MT's as stated in the listing. Second, it is used. (actually listing says "it are used", Jeff Foxworthy would be proud)

They list for $10.95 and you can get them new directly from Atlas or any LHS for that.

BLW sells them new for $7.65

Why does someone pay $17.50 for a used one?

I too am always amazed at what some people will pay for things. Too many time’s I’ve tried to piece together why someone would overpay for something that can obviously be purchased for cheaper elsewhere. Each time I’ve come to the conclusion that people just get caught up in a bidding frenzy to the point where it becomes all about winning the auction rather than getting something at a reasonable price. Either that or a shill bidder went a little too far… [IMG] :D

Just remember the days when people were parting with money to buy a Pet Rock. And how about the Chia Pet. [IMG]
