Well, Rick H., I'm guessing that by the time Centralia gets around to re-running the cars I want and I get around to building the 3-unit piece, the Kato Lark should be just about hitting the shelves. We'll see. Rick
The 4-4-2, 13, 6-6-4 and 10-5 are open for reservations with IM. The 10-5 is current, but the other 3 are not in production yet so should still be reservable. Who knows when they will go to production
Hi Rick, Very good. So, yeah, the Centralia cars are great for what you are wanting to do. They are perfect for a pre 1949 Lark. This is great -- getting a few different Larks going!! Wolf
Hey Wolf, Regarding "time frame" of modeling; I know that the Lark cars were shopped between May 1949 & May 1952. I believe this involved the "Pullman" name being removed and replaced by "Southern Pacific" in the letter board. At this time, they were also included in SP's car numbering system. I don't believe there was any color (as in shade) change to the TTG (Two-Tone Gray) scheme. I'm sure you knew this based on your reply. Just wanted to elaborate a bit further.....
Thanks, Mike Sorry, I should have clarified a bit -- I was referring to the separation stripes (I haven't confirmed if they were silver or lettering gray from the start - I believe them to be silver - but, I don't know for sure) . The upper (At the roof line) and the lower (Just above the skirting) had been removed sometime during or after 1948 (Possibly during the post '49 shoppings- and, this is when I believe the lettering and stripes to have been painted in lettering gray). I have photos of cars in 1948 with the upper and lower stripes and photos of cars in 1949 with them removed. Sometimes it's a bit tough to nail down some of these time lines as it happened during shoppings - and, that can take a little while. The shirts were also removed starting after 1949. Thanks again, Wolf
Stripes and some lettering added (I need to add the road numbers) - The numbers I have are to big. 70-B-8 60-P 77-D-11 Thanks, Wolf
So, Wolf and others who have been putting together n-scale models of the Lark: What kind of sides do/did you use for the 3-unit Lark Club? And where did you get them? I am looking into Brass Car Sides--if they are still available. (Mods: I don't want to break any dealer rules here, but do want the info.) Rick
Vey cool, Wolf. Can't wait to see it done. You know, SP ran an occasional passenger detour over Cajon.... You can bring itovr anytime... Otto K.
Thanks, Otto!! Yeah - running the Lark over Cajon would be awesome. This will happen - I promise. Wolf
Back at it - after a wonderful weekend with our granddaughter (The previous weekend) Added grabs and steps RPO Baggage express Got started on the 10-6 Pullmans Thanks, Wolf
Those cars are turning out nicely there Moonlight Howler. Those photo etch sides make a real difference. Looks like it'll be a healthy train.
Thanks Vince!! They sure do - and, yeah, it'll be 18 cars when all said and hopefully done!! - LOL Wolf
A little progress report. I pretty much have the mechanics worked out for the Lark club -- A little more tweaking --- Thanks, Wolf
