I realized I had not posted a photo. So without further ado, I give you the “booty car” as Gunner named it!

Your layout is looking great and I really like the "booty car". I love to hear and see the kids interested in model railroading from the more experienced modeller. It's time that your grandson and you will cherish forever. Way to go Dale, your a great grandfather!!! My daughter used to work on trees for my layout, she even sold some to a local hobby shop. It paid for gas in her a car.

    Hi Dale,
I always enjoy your work. The silo's, sheds and all the supporting infrastructure is impressive, and looks quite real. I am weak in that particular part of the puzzle. If I may offer something an old timer told me a long time ago. When your ballasting track, after you use the short bristle brush to try to keep the ballast off the tops of the ties. Take that brush by the bristles and smack the rails lightly with the handle (I use a wooden handle brush, very cheap). It works wonders to show the track has been used and knocks the ballast from the side of the rails, works every time LOL. Of course industry tracks often have debris all between the rails and such.
    Please carry on my friend!

I want to give a special shout-out to the Ozark Model Railroad Association. Son Sean and I had the pleasure of operating on it today in a special session.

The OMRA operates a transition era depiction of the Frisco Railroad running from Monet Missouri down to Ft Smith Arkansas. We ran 2 extras from the north end and south end. The layout is mature but it is exceptionally done. They have a website and I suggest you look them up if ever in Springfield Mo. It will be well worth your time to visit them.

A special thanks to my friend David H. for opening up for us to run today! It is always a treat to visit with you!

I even think we spotted everything in the right place!

I’ve had this guy for over a year. I kept thinking I would get around to making it look well used. I ran across some pictures that inspired me to go ahead with the project. This was an Athearn RTR DCC ready locomotive I purchased at a train show.

It now sports a MRC Sound decoder. It has been renumbered from WATCO #11 to WAMX #7104. If I can locate the appropriate SEK decals for the hood sides, they will be installed.

I will be installing the handrails back on tomorrow night and weathering them up. Follow with a final Dullcoat.

It has been weathered with acrylic paints, pastel chalks.

Final touch-up will rust the couplers and add some rust the the brake actuator cans on the trucks. Then I will take it to the club and run the crud out of it!

    Thanks for looking!

Looks great Dale, I like the different shades of blue for the patch job there. Do you weather the handrails before installing them?

    Hi Tom, Joe and Vince,

    Thank you guys for the kind words. 7104 isn’t done yet, got held up in town and I have to be up and on the road early in the morning. To answer the questions;

I had planned to reinstall the rails and weather them in place with black wash and powders. If it runs on the sills, so much the better. Most of the pictures I’ve seen of these critters in SEK livery are pretty dirty towards the end.

I’ve thought about custom decals but all I really need is the South East Kansas for the hood sides. I’m going to look for some dry application letters in a yellow and do them that way if I do at all. One of the few photos of 7104 I can find showed no stenciling on the hoods. Just bad paint. The last custom graphics I had done were a bit on the high side but well worth it.

Typical of this hobby, life got in the way tonight. I’ll get it finished up this week though.

The blue came out a bit more prominent then I wanted but I like how it looks, you can still see the old WATCO where I painted over it. It’s a patch job, right? All in all, I’m pretty happy with it.

I’m starting to worry though that I’m becoming a SKOL former!

Thank you again gents for following my POCR thread!

Final shots of WAMX 7104. She runs pretty good and I’m happy with how she turned out. Weathered with pan pastel powders, acrylic paint and black wash. She has been shoving cars around the port this evening.

    Thanks for looking!
