We’re back, and I hope you all had a good weekend. For us in the United States, I hope you all got to celebrate Thanksgiving in some way and enjoy it. Naturally I ate way too much and that is fine with me. The long weekend still went by fast and Friday I spent some time on a snowmobile I purchased the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Of course that meant registration, a new helmet and various other accessories. It also gave me a chance to look at motorcycles for the spring..... Sunday however, a 7 week long project in my room which had me sleeping on a sofa for all those weeks was finally completed and I moved back into said room. This is where I’m staying until I find a more permanent place for Ang, the dogs and I. I’ve started to set up the Galesburg City Job and maybe now be able to start posting again. So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know, tell us a bit about your Thanksgiving. We’ll Resume to our normal schedule now and do it all over again on Friday the 30th. Until then, have a good week, stay safe and as always... High Greens!
Accomplished nothing. But am really considering ordering an HOn30 0-6-0 steamer, as a Christmas present to me. Have long been looking at it. Maybe now is the time.....
I had a very productive weekend. I was able to work on my layout -- it's been a while. Replaced the point rails on a troublesome turnout in my switch complex. And, took apart a tortoise machine for cleaning the contacts (The turnout had a dead frog). And - what I am really proud of - I put in service my DS-4-4-1000: (Did some tuning of the new contact strips -- she runs great) Hope Y'all had a great Thanksgiving weekend, Wolf
Had a productive weekend, and got enthused again for railroading now that the weather is getting cold. We did the family thing the weekend before Thanksgiving, so my wife and I spent a quiet day at home. I set up a temporary loop and ran a new loco for a couple hours of break-in time. This is the last pre-order I had coming, so there will be no more surprises to the bank account balance. On Sunday I cleaned up my workbench and straightened the sewing room to make it accessible. It tends to be used as a "temporary" storage space and gets cluttered and junked up. While there, I also finished up a couple of tiny half-finished projects from the Spring. Next I tackled Weaver Junction. All the buildings came off and everything was dusted with a soft brush. The rails were cleaned, and then everything got a good vacuuming to get rid of the dust. DCC was hooked up again, and I'm ready to run some trains and continue scenery and detailing.
Well - I accomplished what I set out to do...kinda. I got the stripes on my Little Joe but I'm not happy with how they turned out so I'm going to re-do them. There were a couple problems, my inkjet decals didn't conform to the nooks and contours that I need (partially my fault for not properly prepping the surface) and 2nd, I noticed some small measurement errors. So, I'm going to revisit this perhaps this coming weekend:
Well as I said I got nothing done. Holiday weekends are difficult. Too much stuff to do. However today I went back in the train room and prepped my lake area for resin. Also doing some ground foam and getting the campground layout worked out. I’m thinking 1/4” of resin for the lake. That means two pours. After that I hope to have enough completed to plant some more trees. But gotta get the fence done first. Now here is a question for all you resin pros. The dock should I put it in place on the second pour or first? I am thinking second. It is at a height of 1/4” right now.
It’s been 24 hours and the first layer of resin (woodland scenic realistic water) is now solid. Looks like I have a crack on the left hand side of the pic. I’m thinking one more layer should complete it.
Thanksgiving day I managed to get a little done on this loco. It needs better right rail pickup, only the front driver consistently conducts power. Ordered a KA3 to fit in and have a plan to try to aid the pickup. Spent the rest of the weekend sleeping off a severe head cold that hit me Fri morning. Slept a LOT.So didn't really get anything done. Drove a few trains on Sunday afternoon, any way. Here's a quick vid,
@Kevin Anderson - the folks coming off your fishing dock might like something a little smaller o walk over then that class 1 rip rap.
