For nearly 30 years I was working most every holiday with few exceptions. Even on those few exceptions I ended up being called in because some drunk fool did something stupid and created a big mess. Haven't touched an alcoholic beverage for years once I realized that the older you get the more trouble it is to recover and the more days it takes. Plus now medications and health reasons prohibit imbibing and I never liked beer anyway. It is going to be safer for this old dog inside away from errant vehicles and dumb people, in the man cave, far away from the street, with my miniature world. I will celebrate surviving 6 Noreasters and two hurricanes, and a rainfall total that has broke all known records, and somehow getting another year older but not necessarily smarter. This year I can celebrate having successfully defeating Chuckie the Woodchuck on his forays into my garden or should I say rice paddies with all the rain. I can possibly look forward to maybe finally finishing the last ever layout, having a little less rain, and a critter free garden, and maybe our political leadership finally getting some common sense, and actually doing something constructive. Nah that last thing is probably an impossibility.
I wish a Happy and Rewarding New Year to all. Up until my wife retired, we spent every New Year's Eve in her bank office. She was responsible for some major software systems and had to assure they balanced out the year correctly without any glitches. Thankfully the guards never asked to share cooler contents of snacks and non-alcoholic punch. LOL
Many years ago I encountered a very, very serious party animal out and about on the evening of January First. Me: Where were you last night? Party Animal: At home. Me: On New Year's Eve? Party Animal: *snort* Amateur Night!
The PC crowd has decreed that the above named tune be censored. FIFY For us hardcore drunks, New Year's Eve always has been Amateur Night. Too bad that eventually, I had to grow up, so now I usually work if I am in town.

My kids showed up. We ran trains till dinner. I took all their keys. Over a foot of snow today. Designated driver doesnt have to go anywhere
