I've been trying to give my modeling some seriously needed organization.

Currently, I have the obligatory multi drawer small parts bin which is great for... small parts, but I also have some ancient (failing) cardboard (9 stacked draws in sections of 3) storage for larger stuff (anything from small tools to sheet plastic or brass to odds n ends) measuring approximately 12"x12"x2.5".

I've also used a bunch of those legal document style boxes for all manner of stuff, but since you can't see what's inside without looking inside (plus, the box you want is always at the bottom of the stack) I want something better (including a way to store (HO) cars and locos safely without squishing).

This is what I'm currently looking at and the dimensions seem appropriate (for the most part). What do you use and in what capacity?

This is how I'm currently storing some locos, but it is not practical over the long haul (squish factor... dust factor... takes up too much horizontal space). Thoughts?

I have so little left, all HO now, two shelves of a 2' wide bookshelf for the cars and engines does it along with a 10 quart plastic box from that Wally World place.

My dad bought several of these for odds and ends in the garage. He had the same problem. At first he wanted me to make 1/2 inch plywood bases with casters that screwed into the plywood. I just epoxied the casters that came with them into the holes. Works great. Did it probably 2 years ago. No problems.

That does look very useful and handy. Maybe if I can get a larger storage unit. Say 12'x35'. Well 10'x28' would be more than enough. ;)
