Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a good weekend, got a lot done and stayed cool. It was in the 90’s here and the humidity was hovering around 82%.

Saturday: I started construction on the three wall supports that will be used for the B&M layout as well as building a small cassette for both layouts. Unfortunately I spent most of my time looking for items in the garage but I got most of the work done that I set out to accomplish.

Sunday: The original plan was to take a nice relaxing ride on the bike to a local HD dealership but with the heat index, I decided against it. The wall brackets are made of 1X2 and 1X3 dimensional lumber and 1/4-inch plywood and are assembled with yellow carpenters glue. Because I only had so many clamps, I could only assemble half of one bracket at a time, which was fine as I could help out with domestic duties while the glue dried. By the end of the day, I had three brackets and one cassette done. Not bad.

So how about you? What did you accomplish? Let us know. We’ll assemble again on Friday the 19th and do it all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe and as always...

    High Greens!

Not a lot. Getting ready to drill out holes for grab irons on my box car kit.

I managed to get down to the train room for the first time in two weeks. During the summer, I have so many other things to keep me busy outdoors but thanks to a string of thunder storms, I retreated to the train room.

Made some more progress on my (old skool DC railroad) block control panel and got the LEDs lit. The six leftmost columns are blocks, with two unlit spares for expansion or block locations I might have overlooked. The bottom E-Series row is for six Engine terminal tracks. The rightmost two columns are for layout functions like main power, DC throttle selection (Kato base or Troller tethered walkaround), reverse loop direction, lights and a DCC input for when I want to enter the DCC world. This section also has a blank spare position. Spare positions were commonly found on prototype interlockers.

Not a lot of MRRing for me.

Saturday: We took our Granddaughter down to the San Diego Zoo safari park. What a wonderful day. It was about 92-93 degrees. Not to bad -- as it was a dry heat.

Sunday: Recuperated from Saturday. I did manage to hook up a Digitrax Zephyr to my work bench's test track. Now I can mess around with new DCC installs at my work bench instead of going up to my layout -- back and forth.
I also did a ESU Lokpilot V4.0 install into a BLI ATSF E-6B -- man, I cannot stand BLI's decoders. I had put an ESU Loksound select micro in the "A" unit -- huge difference in performance and sound quality.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

With the convention and national train show all my modeling was sitting in clinics and looking at other people work. Got a little expensive for me at the show. Found some stuff I can use, need, not live without, etc...

I am an HO guy and I am moving into the world of N. I wanted to build a small switching layout that was portable for shows etc. after watching the Free-moN guys I have decided to build two modules in N scale. So of course being me I dive in head first. Saturday night in about a three hour period I had a track plan figured out, two different themes, and started working on structure ideas. Saturday I purchased a full train, engine just needs a decoder (not looking forward to the install here), weathering materials purchased (all structures on one module will be made of wood). Next I need to sit down with my CAD program and make sure it all works out together.

Now to watch some old gunsmoke shows to get some ideas for scenery and structures.

I have done nothing for a few weeks, it is currently 109°F and getting warmer...but it's a dry heat...I am about to buy some N Scale brick sheets to build either one or two models of the Pacific Electric Substation #13 that stood in Bellflower, CA until the 1990's...Suydam built a paper kit of this building in HO, with brick colored bricks. The real building from the 1950's on was painted white. I am thinking about building this a little bit differently than I normally do. I was given an HO kit, I am thinking about scanning it into my computer, scaling it down to N, then using my friend's Cricut Machine to cut the walls, roof and cooling tower...I would then have to scratch build the buttresses and windows...

Started putting together an Alkem Models C&O brick signal cabin. I had painted the parts over July 4th long weekend. It is going to look pretty good. Just going to take a while to build.

Saturday AM, I put 2 old Athearn blue box cars, a Bowser covered hopper, and a Walthers 10,000gal tank car in a bath of brake fluid for 3 hours and scrubbed off all of the old paint and lettering. They came pretty clean. They will be over-sprayed, get decals, and repurposed to another road name.

Also got out an old Broadway mikado I got off of Ebay a few years back. Could never get it to run on the layout. Sunday, just as a lark, I pulled it out of the box and put it on the NCE programming station in my work shop. Sucker fired right up and ran. I programmed the address and its on the layout now awaiting assignment.

ALSO, and most importantly, I had the coil replaced to the Mitsubishi mini-split that is dedicated to the attic/train room. It had a bad freon leak and wouldn't hold temperature. So now I can snear at the hot days and "cooly" (again) run trains.

Lots of "thissa and thatta" this weekend, but a lot of happy stuff went on.. Only thing I did NOT do was take pictures.

I started installing track on modules 03 and 04. My goal is to install all of the mainline track on all of the modules then go back and add the track for sidings and yards. Found my box of Peco turnouts the other day, I have been looking for them for quite a while and they just showed up on my workbench. Strange but at least I found them.

I'd never heard of Alkem, so just hit their website and am super impressed! A great C&O Cabin kit and plenty of other products too. (y)
