Wouldn’t be a Friday without a post from noob!!! Greenery and trees to come. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not sure what make or type this is but got it at an estate table at trainfest in Milwaukee for $20...thoughts?! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had to adjust some of the electrical touch points but it works (tested with a 9v). Will have to see if I squeeze a DCC decoder in there. Perfect find for my soon to be small logging area Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looking good! As far as curves and long cars, you can run auto racks and passenger cars on 9" radius curves. They will technically run, but the overhang on said curves look unrealistic. That's the tradeoff model railroaders have to weigh in layout designs. For what it's worth, I limit 89' scale cars to curves 12"rad and larger for aesthetics.
I like those little 0-6-0 Docksiders, they make great little locos for logging lines! Get some Micro-Trains couplers on it, a little weathering, and change the letters to your own line.
Hello!!! Sorry I’ve been absent but took a break because of the holidays and surgery on my elbow. I have some wood and was thinking about expanding to fill in the gap in the middle to add an old west town or something... one picture is what I have on hand to expand, and the other is my initial idea. Let me know why you guys think! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I highly recommend some sort of easy interior access. Once you start laying track more than 24" reach in, you're going to start hating that reach. And when you start scenery, you'll hate that reach. And when you have a semi-finished scene and something derails, and you have to reach around stuff while reaching that far, you're really going to hate that reach. Moral of the story: I recommend keeping reaches under 24", unless you have Inspector Gadget arms.... I think I read you had elbow surgery recently? That reach might not be comfortable there, either. I have had layout with those extended reaches which never met completion, and I disliked them then, too. Open access is key, since if it is challenging to access, you can bet you'll have many derailments in that spot. Ask me how I know.... Personally, I love the upper plan with serpentine dual mains. Your back and elbows will too. This is just a hobby, and I am not a professional, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so please take my comments with a grain of salt.
I agree with HemiAdda2d above. You need to make sure you have access to the middle somehow. I can reach thirty inches (2 1/2') on my layout, but since it's 42" deep I have to pull it away from the wall to make sure I can get behind and reach everything. And since your layout is only 5' deep, there's not really space to make a crawl-in. If you can manange, I'd add at least another foot of width and add a 2x2 min. gap in the center. Either that or make sure you have complete walk-around access.
I like that idea, I think I’ll do a 2x2 crawl in space in the middle and relocate my goods delivery area Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
