Welcome back everyone. I hope you are ready for the upcoming weekend. Let's get started. Saturday: My favorite work day! I should have some time tomorrow evening to get ready for the next project though. Sunday: I'll be doing a combined "Date Day" and train show. There is the bi-annual train show in Peoria this Sunday, so I figured it would be fun to take Angela with me and take the scenic route getting breakfast along the way. I'm not looking for anything in particular at the show but it is always fun to see old friends. We'll head back home and stop at our favorite restaurant outside of Peoria for a hot meal and a slice of pie. Once back, I plan to get fully involved with the control panel for the B&M layout and update the layout's Facebook page. So how about you? What do you have planed for the weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 18th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe and as always... High Greens!
Hope to continue working out drawings of my benchwork and table legs, made somewhat more difficult because the layout will be moved someday, will be on casters and because I enjoy woodworking and want everything to look nice.
I am redoing the graphics on the GM&O hopper #32018. The first set was somewhat too large. Next is the covered hopper, a Frisco car. I so need to be doing scenery, foliage, buildings, people, you name it.
Both days -- hope to finish up my next F3 set -- Where I left off: Y'all have a great weekend, -- it is supposed to be in the high 80's to low 90's this weekend --- where is fall-? Wolf
Looking forward to seeing your photos! Some years ago I painted this M-T boxcar in GM&O. I lived in AL at the time and no manufacturer offered a car like this.
Great job on that GM&O car Hardcoaler! As for my weekend plans, we have guest this weekend so I'm just hoping it will work out that I can squeeze in a couple of hours to work on more scenery and touch up a few spots where I didn't get the ballast quite right.
NMRA meeting on Saturday then I hope to Continue work on the depot and control tower. I really need to get these finished.
Continue e-shopping for an N turntable. So far, disappointed by how few dealers even list the one I have in mind. And nobody lists the motorizing kit.
This weekend will be working buildings. I have an "American Brewery" kit I started years ago. The CMR version from about 2006 or 2007. I got the walls basically built-up and laminated w/ the brick before I tore down the Northern Virginia version of the Albemarle Division when we moved to NC. I have always planned for that sucker to a part of my Albemarle City backdrop. It will take some time "chipping" away to finish it. (what doesn't in this hobby, right?) Have a great weekend all.
the hopper is done. the covered hopper has begun. (don't you hate it when people try to rhyme everything?) I have fabricated the side sheets. now working on something I call retainers and trucks. will do the roof as separate subassembly too.
I guess I am pretty much finished with my Z Scale Lester Depot. I made a cowboy hat to turn a We-Honest person into a mean hombre, lerking on the side of the depot. I got my 3mm square plastic tube and made the chimneys: Made some signs , and added We-Honest travelers, and toned down their bright glossy clothing: Made some Railway Express Agency carts, signs, and added luggage: Added the depot name sign, and the 1950's monad:
As for my own plans for this weekend, I hope to start on the bandsaw I plan to use to slice and dice the plywood for my benchwork. I've got a stand (needs some repair) and found some new old stock motors for a reasonable price on fleabay, so I'm going to dig into it.
I am thinking, seriously, about starting a scratch build that will take way more than one weekend. You may have seen my other post regarding an n scale roller coaster to be placed on club N scale layout. I made one, that operated, about 20 years ago that was on an NTRAK module. I used N scale Peco code 55 flex track because of the way the rails are embedded in the plastic ties. Very strong stuff. I am thinking about using Z scale track but have no experience with it so I will ask those who are Z scalers about the flex track that is available. Are the rails attached on top of the plastic tie strips as done by Atlas and others? Do any European manufacturers embed the rail in the plastic? I know, I am an idiot but think it is a real challenge that would be fun and possibly very rewarding, Carl
All the Z Scale flex is code 55 to code 60. Atlas has a Z Scale version of their N Scale flex in code 55, Peco has Z Scale code 60 on top with Euro tie spacing just like Marklin, and MTL has code 60. All but the Atlas are somewhat stiff, none are like the embedded N Scale double flange Peco.
