Hello, there, I started model railroading a very long time ago - back in the 1950s, with a Hornby gauge 0 clockwork trainset. Much later, I was given a Märklin gauge Z starter set, and got seriously into track layout and landscaping. Later still, my children were interested in Playmobil, and I started scratch-building accessories for that, including narrow-gauge locos and cars for the Faller Play-Train system. Now the kids are out of the house, I'd like to get the "Playmobil Narrow Gauge" going again. The tracks are gauge 0 (32mm) and the scale is roughly 1:22.5, so I'm depicting a 750mm narrow gauge. My main focus is on rolling-stock and trackside buildings. I hope I'll get some inspiration here, and perhaps be able to share some of my experience! Cheers, Jed
Welcome Jed! I spent 5 years in Germany, near Kaiserslautern. I remember well the Playmobil selection the toy stores had. My kids loved that stuff. There are many talented modelers here.
Hi Jed, welcome. Glad to have you on board. Not having heard of Playmobil, I found its website. Incorporating a narrow gauge system with Playmobil should give you complete freedom to do anything you wish in the world of whimsy. Looking forward to what you create, with photos of course.
Welcome aboard! I spent 3 months in West Germany back in the summer of ‘79. Mostly near Geisen and Hanau. You’re going to enjoy this forum.
Yes, indeed! Playmobil narrow gauge is a sort of relaxation from the strict discipline of my Z-gauge layout, where I try to be very true to period and geography (the late steam epoch in Germany). The 0-gauge locomotive and coaches are based on a sort of Steampunk philosophy: they don't portray any specific rolling stock that actually existed anywhere, but rather items that might have been developed if humans had the same biometric proportions as the play figures. I'll try and take some pics, so you'll get the idea. Cheers, Jed
