I am looking for a method to recreate chrome window sills. An idea that I have is to apply a small amount of paint on a tooth pick and then trace around the edge of the window. I model in N scale so there would be a greater chance for messy smears and clean up would be difficult. I've come across a product called Molotow Liquid chrome paint pens. Has anyone used these? The smallest tip is 1mm which is still pretty big for N scale loco and vehicle widows. What techniques/products have you used?

Thanks for your time and input.

A tiny paintbrush, dry, from inside the body, with the tip pointed up away from the body works for the top of the door and the B pillar, and makes things a little easier. For the top of the window I angle the pretty dry brush up and come in from the outside.

If you like superdetailed automobiles, it pays to model the mixed power era. "Bright window surround moldings" were uncommon to unheard of until the hardtop came along.

    Dave,

I have used the Molotow product and it is pretty nice looking. A word of caution, and you may be aware already, the bright chrome finish will greatly fade if sprayed with a clear coat, even a shiny spray. That might not be an issue on window sills.

I love to show off, so if you are not familiar with Molotow here is an image of 2 trucks that I spray painted. The trailers, wheels, and all chrome goodies on tractors are sprayed with Molotow. It is pretty neat stuff, IMHO, but it takes time and patience. I hope this provides some insight for the "chrome".

PS: I too used tooth pick in some real tight spots.
