Trainman -

The R702 circus car is actually in the registry already (unless you just added that car), as to the R1770 and R1771, how sure are you that USA Trains ever actually made these cars?
There are several items shown in early (and even recent) LGB catalogues that were never actually manufactured.
Those two numbers R1770 and R1771) are in the registry as well, but they are military transport cars with tanks and military loads.
So did USA Trains reuse product ID numbers or were these container cars never manufactured?

Can you post a scan of these cars from the catalogue so we all get an idea what they look like - maybe someone will recognize the car in the picture.
As I said - LGB has had numerous cars and engines in their catalogue that they never produced. Pictures were of the real model (not a drawing or sketch), but these were pictures a pre-production model that for some reason was then never produced. I'm sure that USA Trains also makes pre-production units they can use for photographs in their catalogues.

I find it strange that you with your extensive knowledge and interest in USA Trains would have never come across one of these container cars - even stranger is the fact that not more road names were produced.

But the best bet is to just ask Charles Ro, I'm sure he would remember especially if you send him a picture of the cars.

Trainman -

On the two container cars - did the car itself, without the containers and in a different paint scheme, ever make it as a future USA Trains product?
Maybe with a different load or without the side panels?
Hard to tell in the picture, but the car just looks like a flat car with side panels added.

Similar question for the containers. Did USA Trains ever offer containers in that size and shape later?

Answers to either one of those would help to determine if these cars were ever sold - unless someone actually has one in their hot little hands.

.....this means there are those two one off prototypes somewhere......

....but the prototypes existed at that time.....

No and yes - these prototypes did exist when the picture was taken (I assume people didn't use photoshop as much at the time as they do now), but that doesn't mean that they still exist somewhere. They could have been either destroyed or repainted or modified to flat cars - lots of possibilities - pity that Charles Ro's memory is not better.

USA Trains registry reaches over 10,000 views

I would like to take the time out to thank EVREYONE who has dedicated time and helped with getting information, making PDF files and any other kind of helpful entries to the thread. I believe this registry is the best information availbale on the net for USA Trains thanx to many people volunteering and helping to bring it this far.

This USA Trains post is now definately a good single place to research USA Trains history, different rolling stock that has been released over the years and custom releases. When you do a Goggle search on USA Trains, this USA Trains Registry on Train Board is now on the first page of the research, not bad.

What I would actually like to see is a USA Trains Guide book to be published much like Greenburgs Guide to Lionel Trains with the information and pictures provided here. I'm not a publisher, a book writer and don't have the financial means for such a project, but if someone wanted to partner up with such a project we could talk about releasing rights for making this guide book. I would like to include Charles Ro Trains also in the guide. But I'm not sure if there would be a demand for the guide to pay off the project. So right now it's just one step at a time.

Again thanx for all of your support on this project

On another note, I would like to see USA Trains come out with a SD-9 locomotive, I think it would be a hot seller, I would buy 2 of them myself. Aristocraft was suppose to come out with the SD-9, but I don't know what happened to that idea. Just like the cylinder hopper, just announced projects that never happened.

Trainman,

Has anyone ever told you that you should write a book? With all the great facts and knowledge you have and all the great photos that's been collected, it would be a hit. Too big to post but you could sell it on eBay like the guy who did one for Delton Locomotive Works. I'm sure USAT's Charles Ro would give you his blessings.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

That is a idea I have been pondering for a while, but I'm not a editor. I guess I need to look into this subject further as I don't even know what the costs up front would be for such a project. I could probably pick up Barnes & Noble as a distributor, they have a huge warehouse in my state only a couple hours away. It's definately something I have been considering for a long time. One thing I have to do is stop thinking small, I keep thinking how many would sell in the USA, but actually I keep forgetting this is a global hobby and there are USA Trains fans around the world, so being able to make this book in other languages would probably be a good idea also.

Good idea. My future son-in-law (guess the reason I'm so busy these days) publishes his children's books online thru Amazon.com and is doing quite well. PM me and I'll send you a link to his page so you can see what he's done.

The KCS hopper was assigned the USAT product ID R141002, was available with road numbers 286003, 286004, 286005, 286006 and was also a custom run for RLD Hobbies.

3CC127EC-BE17-4A47-BC63-81A2A4E61396.jpeg and here’s a quandary (besides this board-newbie not being able to actually find “the registry”) i have regarding another usat wp&yr car:

i have what i believe is an r1432 wp&yr outside braced car r/n 33, but the usat sticker overlays an otherwise identical sticker that bears the number r1431; see pix

anybody have any info?

cheers!
