Post your old building, layout, and train rescues here! This is one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby for me... taking decrepit old buildings found at yard sales, and rejuvenating them. Apologies if this is a duplicate thread.

Anyways, I just finished this rescue... a charming old garage that was in a box of old buildings I bought from a guy locally.

    Before...

Very nice work. Perhaps I should start looking into such as I do have a couple kits. But have never seen any at yard sales here in Appleton or Milwaukee areas. On the 28th the local club will be having there yearly swap meet at the armory and they will have some. :);)

Thanks! Yeah shows and swap meets are another great place to find cheap used models for refurbishment. There's a swap meet in Bowmanville (30 mins east of Toronto) that I'm attending on the 14th of March. I'm always on the lookout for cheap rescue candidates, especially with the cost of new kits!

    Excellent work!
I see alot of cheap built-up buildings at shows for a couple bucks that would be great for such projects. I haven't redone any myself for my layout yet, but I've got quite a few candidates under my layout.

When I was wargaming, most of my miniatures were used, poorly painted figs that were either touched-up or -more often- stripped, repaired and repainted. Much of my terrain (sci-fi) was made from broken resale shop toys that were repurposed (often cut-up and reassembled) into something new.

It's a very satisfying feeling to take something that was essentially cast-off trash and turn it into something unique that looks great on the tabletop.

Not nearly as cleanly done as the OP's, but here's a post apocalyptic rebuild,
A $3 patriotic decoration from the thrift store that is approximately 1/32 scale...

Converted into a post-apoc western distillery in approximately approximately 0 scale (28mm).

Yes! That's where I find some cheap buildings with a lot of potential, as well as the online classifieds. That garage was in a box full (6-8 buildings) for $20.

Awesome! And another take on the rescue theme! Turning a $3 dollar store building into a cool layout piece!

    Nice work on both structures.
Got lots of these projects lined up (cheap train show finds), but haven't started on them yet.

Four of them are showing in this photo from the winter layout party.
