I don't think the SP/SSW ever saw a light package they didn't like, and can you imagine the $$ they spent to maintain them. Here is an image showing the original configuration for this class of units, it was typical of the SP units at the time. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1976056 Looks like a Red Gyra light, over Mars light, over headlight, The Red light coming on in a emergency application of the brakes. Quite busy up there.
Box - I would guess so, but there was nothing there to indicate what function they had. Just a stub siding back of a warehouse. Grand - No idea, but very cool pics!!!
Wow. I would have never guessed Canon City, before the merger. With all SO power and caboose. Great shot Rod.
From 02/21/1998 at Maybeury, WV when coal was still king on the former N&W main. From 05/23/1989 at NS's yard near Birmingham, AL at Irondale.
Three SP shots here, with the 8560 lending a hand by Sloss Furnace at Birmingham, AL on 11/16/1985: The 7867 at Chattanooga, TN on 08/25/1990: and the 7942 at Casa Grande, AZ on 11/11/2002:
Many long years ago the SP and BN ran a joint hot train between Los Angeles and Seattle. LAS/SLA. This is power for a LAS, crew changing at Head Of The Bay Yard, (an old NP facility), in Tacoma, Washington. It had been a glorious day, chasing trains with my late MILW Agent/Operator friend, Bob Brown from Wisconsin. (Seems like most of my RR and boat racing friends are gone already. )
