Welcome to April. If you are like me, you have a shelter in place protocol until the end of the month. I hope you are staying well and taking the necessary precautions to maintain your health and the health of your loved ones. Saturday: Yesterday was warm and sunny, so I was able to lightly sand and add the second coat of polyurethane to by CTC box. It is supposed to rain and be in the mid 50's tomorrow, so besides eBay, I plan to clear coat and install the Tam Valley turnout controls to the CTC panel. Sunday: Is supposed to be sunny and 57, so I hope to get some more yard work done, cook a bit on the grill and maybe take the motorcycle out for the first time this year. Any other time I have available, I'll use to work on the B&M layout. So how about you? What do you have planned for the weekend? Let us know. Well..... Saturday: Mask then paint the roofs and under body details of my friends E8's black. Continue work on my new project. (Photos soon -- I promise) - once I feel the project is viable -- it is looking pretty good. Sunday: If the paint is good on the E8's -- start decaling them. Continue the new project. Today is my wife and I's 10th anniversary, so when I get home from work this afternoon, I won't be doing anything in the basement...…..that's for sure. We ordered a swing set/playground for the kids for Easter. That was delivered to the house Wednesday, I spent the last two evenings moving all 2,000 parts to the back yard. So that will consume the rest of the weekend and likely into next week. Hopefully I can mount a few more vertical supports in the basement. I need to replace two basement hopper windows before the benchwork goes up, but that will be held up a while. Avoiding public non-essential places like Lowes until this pandemic thing passes.
Have some fence to paint and install around the farm scene. So will probably work on the farm scene as well. Did some ground cover last week that I need to clean up and touch up. Also going to try and finish up the parking lots behind the buildings on main street. Figure that should keep me busy enough. Would like to wire up some more lights but the wife won't let me go to Lowes or Home Depot to get supplies. Plus, starting this afternoon, our state is now under a shelter in place order for the next few weeks but I still have to go to work like normal. The boss has already given us our hall passes in case we get stopped on the way in or to home. Hope you all have a great weekend and stay safe from this virus stuff.
I have a new blank slate to work with: So my weekend will probably consist of reorganizing the reference library that goes under this benchwork as well as beginning to lay out my track plan on the blue foam.
Happy Friday. Hope all are healthy. This weekend will be more "thissa and thatta" in the layout room and possibly at the workbench. Right now I see in my future: Some scenery work Doing some printed labeling some wiring/circuiting under the bench that needs to be ID'd. Advancing construction on a building or 2. Lastly, cleaning the layout room from the ravages and mess of the past month's work. Hope everyone has a peaceful weekend.
I hope to continue weathering some PS-2 covered hoppers. I also have a Stewart NYO&W FTA and FTB kit to assemble and test.
First, I hope all are well. Second, I have reshopped the 0-6-0 shifter for rebuild. It was damaged during refitting previously and has hybrid equipment that needs improvement. Five turnouts need upgrading. I have downloaded vehicle and figure reference material and have begun drawing at least one car to fabricate. The list goes on.
Continue laying track on my HOn30 module project. Possibly even get so far as cutting the turntable pit hole, or more. Possibly, I said....
This weekend I hope to get back to doing something worth taking photos of. I spent the last two weeks of social distancing under the layout, redoing wiring to make problem solving easier. Which I might add is quite a chore on a layout that uses standard DC with four power blocks, four mainline walkaround cabs, two local cabs for yard switching, and two independent reverse loops. I implemented a color coded scheme to represent each cab control, and replaced/converted many of the conductors to match the scheme and I added green tape to every ground conductor. I then labeled every track feeder to match its corresponding switch. Next step is to clean up the wiring itself with cable ties and staples. It's been a huge effort but because I tested every circuit on each throttle, working out all the nagging issues, it was well worth the time spent. Maybe tomorrow I can get back to some scenery work and make the most of the unscheduled free time.
This is the N scale Frisco Arkansas River Bridge for my Boston Mountains Sub Division layout. The bridge is 45.5 inches long and the module it's on is 58x12 inches. Still have a bit of work to do with details but it is wired and have run a couple of trains down the track. This is the first time the model has been next to portion of the real bridge. The real bridge is over a 1,000 feet and has around nine spans. Joe
