Anyone with recommendations of who can custom decal/paint n scale locomotives? My original dude Kendall at MRLTrains has an email that is now bouncing back unfortunately. He did some great work. Maybe hes still out there? But if anyone has their go-to guy/girl, please let me know.
actually just checked my locomotive (its been awhile in storage) and looks like i just need decals. Anyone who can print white? I can make my own designs but just need a printer.
You bring up a question that I have had before. Is there a printer that prints White? The only one that I was ever aware of was the swiss dye sub printer that could use a white cartridge, but those are history. As I understand it, decals with white are silk screened. Having once had a job where I made the screens, I am amazed at what can be done today.I do know someone that had custom decals printed by Microscale, they printed them on the edges of big sheets of decal film, but he told me that getting them do do it was a slow difficult process.
you have to use white decal film. highball graphics do's custom decals. that is how i got the fwwr decals made. and now he now sales them.
ALPS printer can print white. I don't remember if it was a specific model or the entire line. Of course they no longer make them. Folks have made great N scale whit decals.
FYI - Kendall passed away about 4 years ago. He did a lot of great work for me, and was a good friend.
Oh no!!! thats such sad news. Heres a tribute to him then. My last email to him was 5/2014 about this caltrain caboose he was doing for me. His work was absolutely incredible. Paint was so smooth, decals were pristine. This caboose started life as the microtrains SP police #13000070. I guess this one will always be a keeper for me then in memory of him.
im looking to get my athearn f59 finally decaled up in the Amtrak California "repower" colors. Guy by the name of Jeff Gowers did this paintjob for me back in 2010. I dont suppose someone already has the decals for this? Good to know that highball can custom print. Ill have to check them out. Or if someone out there can design the decals and i can send this to them we can chat about that service too.
Indeed, he is no longer with us. Really nice guy. Very talented. I did some trading and buying from him, back in the 90's, at area swap meets. Easy to work deals with him. Bummer.
Alps printers have been gone for a long time, more than ten years, so I doubt cartridges are still available. But it did a good job for its day. depending on what you are doing white decal paper might make do.
Ribbons are still available, and in even more colors than before. Elephant Rocket Micro Parts & Supplies Aikishugyo
I've used an outfit called Solidesign. They will do custom work here is their URL: http://solidesign.bizland.com/decals.html
Dang, wondered why I never saw him anymore at local shows. Sad, he was a good guy. I sold him my N-scale Milwaukee Road stuff when I switched to Z-scale. Gotta' laugh now, cause awhile later I saw him and he showed me my locos-he had turned my 5 Kato Milw SD40-2's into MRL units!!
