Not totally useless for folks modeling that era! Thanks for posting! I model 1980, so not super helpful to me, but I'll take whatever info I can find.
Howdy Hemi!!! Been too long. (really...this thread was eons ago!!! lol) Yes, I have been able to find a few pics of the CCTX FMC cars over the years. I've moved my era forward enough that they were clearly retired so it's a bit of a moot point, although I also moved to Z-scale and seeing those 18-packs is REALLY cool. Wish they were needed as that is actually a great deal.
I am modeling Soldier Summit in Utah in 1966. A little earlier than you. The quads were just arriving on the scene. Here is a link that I found helpful: https://www.rgmhs.org/data/freight/1993/hoppers.html Mark P
Came across this photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/bnsfds/20354976178 Not dated, but this is the train I remember seeing often from my perch on the 8th floor of the Oil & Gas building in Wichita Falls, TX in 1995/1996. The SP AC4400's couldn't have come much earlier than that (they look brand new) and the new CCTX cars came in late 1997.
The SP AC4400CWs were delivered in Apr-Oct 1995 (all 278 units!). The leader in particular, (cannot make out the trailing unit numbers) in April that year, so your date seems pretty dead on. I'd wager it's no later than May 1995. https://utahrails.net/up-diesel-roster/up-diesel-roster-60.php#c44ac-6500 It's beyond my chosen era, but still a fine photo regardless.
Too late for my interests, but several from here will know that the D&RGW mail-list-group-site has a wealth of info- and much analysis of that era was posted. Go to the group and USE THE search, vary your terms to broaden capture: https://groups.io/g/DRGW/topics Results will follow.. An alternative mirror site that often brings up more search results is Nathans: http://www.drgw.net/drgwlist-archive/index.php The mirror here stopped with the demise of Y*h, but the ready access to results yields pages of, results cheers davew
