hello from (today) sunny Netherlands. Thank you for having me.
I have been for some time an N gauge modeller. I have been modelling a lot using 3D printing technology. I have had probably the largest production of Italian N gauge trains, which I made for myself and offered on Shapeways for no profit to the Italian N gauge modellers. I created a brand called "Ubi miNor (maior cessat)" (which is a paraphrase of the Latin say, actually saying the contrary of the original): "the smaller wins over the greater".
I have been very sceptical about the Z gauge because of the utterly ugly Märklin miniclub coupling system. I nevertheless made some models, actually rescaling of my N models, for a friend.
With no couplings, those models turned out to be very attractive, so I started to work on a replacement of the exceptionally ugly miniclub coupling. After some experimenting I think I found a nice solution.
This solution removed the principle objection to the Z gauge, and so I am now modelling most of the time in Z gauge. Maybe my brand name is an omen that pushes me to smaller scales (from N to Z). I hope I will not get into T gauge....

Hi Ubiminor, welcome. we're glad to have you aboard. Your coupling design appears workable for coupling and holding. Though it requires a two finger sky hook to uncouple. Is it possible that you could design an electromagnetic uncoupling system?

    Hi Hytec,

Thanks for the welcome and feedback. I have already realised an uncoupling system, whic can be under track, or on the loco/car.
I have added the explanation of the working of my couplings on a thread specifically on magnetic couplers.
    Please see this thread
    Ciao
    G.
