That's interesting. I thought all the ATSF GP-7s had gotten their noses chopped by then but the units equipped with steam generators. But 2826 never had one of those.

According to the roster here, 2826, wouldn't get rebuilt into a GP7u until 1980, so it seems like it had another about ten years as built when that photo was taken.

That 7906, is that a former passenger unit? I see a Mars light in the nose, but where would the steam generator be in that unit?

Yes, a former dual service unit of the 450 Class. Those were the first to wear what would later become the Superfleet paint scheme. The boiler was between the back of the cab and the filtered air inlet.

It was stripped of dual service status and red and silver paint before Anthrax, about 1968. The GE trucks were found not to track as well at speed as Flexicoils. I think their steam generators were removed at that same time.

This one is just west of Pinecliffe, CO, at South Beaver Creek Rd, facing west, looking at an eastbound movement. West of here is Pactolus, Tunnel 30 and Rollinsville. Bonus points for the snow flock!
